Set in the picturesque Florida town of Indialantic, located on a barrier island between the Indian River and the Atlantic Ocean, this tender story follows a boy and his dog as they find joy and love in the most unexpected places.
On a cold January morning, 12-year-old Michael Martin goes fishing at the Indian River on Florida’s Space Coast. But instead of the sea trout he's hoping to catch, Michael finds a discarded burlap sack -- and the shivering dog inside. Michael names him Lucky, but he soon realizes the rat terrier he rescued has, in turn, rescued him.
Lucky helps Michael face the fears he’s harbored ever since his father's death, and he introduces Michael to new friends – including a vision-impaired girl named Guinevere and her 20-pound Maine Coon, Minnie. He might not wear a cape, but when school bullies and close encounters with a poisonous snake and angry alligator threaten the friends and family he loves, Lucky transforms into a superhero with fur to prove his love and loyalty have no limits.
